“Young Patriot”

“Young Patriot”

I believe that if you create enough photographs over a long enough time, you will begin to realize that some you make, and some are just plain flat out given to you. “Young Patriot” is of the latter class. I was just lucky enough to be standing there with a camera in my hand. Before I tell you of its history I’d like to demonstrate something I absolutely LOVE about the art of photography; about perception; and about reality. I have a small salon and photo gallery in Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia. I always have an artwork on display in the front window as an attention grabber. I placed “Young Patriot” on the easel in the window. Within a day I had gotten a complaint that it was offensive and should be taken down. I was stunned. I’ll let you ponder that one. I have some ideas…

Now the story: I was standing at a Fourth Of July celebration and there was this group of maybe 4 kids right beside me. They were all looking through their little flags, at the sun; playing with the light as it came through the cloth. I pivoted, estimated the composure, and got one frame. This one!
